INTERWOVEN LIFE

Interwoven Life invites you to move with the rhythms of the seasons.
In the food forest at Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum in Rotterdam you’ll discover, together with the caretakers of the foodforest,  how to live in connection with the land, the weather, the plants, and their flavours. Through observation, harvesting, and shared processing, you learn from the forest and from one another.

A food forest is not just about plants. It’s also about weaving relationships. Together, we weave a basket – literally, to harvest and process what is growing – and metaphorically, as a symbol of the connections between people, seasons, and ecosystems. The Interwoven Life activities take place at the turning points between seasons.

What are we going to do?
Each session offers: an introduction to the food forest, insights into what is growing and blooming at that time of year, hands-on experience with harvesting and processing, and the creation of a seasonally inspired piece of basketry.

You’ll go home with a unique handmade object and harvest to enjoy later.
Join a single session or follow the full series.

INTERWOVEN LIFE I
Friday June 20 | 13:00 – 16:30
We begin gently: with leafy greens and early blooms. You’ll be introduced to the forest and create your own small basket – an ode to the transformation from Spring to Summer.

INTERWOVEN LIFE II
Friday August 15 | 13:00 – 16:30
Peak harvest season. Together we gather, process, and co create a simple tasting from what the forest offers. We will be weaving a harvest basket and you’ll take it home filled with food forest treats.

INTERWOVEN LIFE III
Friday October 17 | 13:00 – 16:30
Autumn brings abundance and closure. We collect materials for keeping – in jars, and in the form of a woven basket. A long, sensory afternoon that ends with the preservation of food and memory that you’ll take home.
